Inspired by the Butterfly Nebula as captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. It lies within our Milky Way galaxy, approximately 3800 light years away in the constellation Scorpius. The symbol of the butterfly has been adopted by the transgender community and a transgender friend suggested the name ‘Freedom’ for this painting which speaks to the sense of being able to fly and express the feeling of one’s true nature.
